Quite reasonably entertained with this Herschell Gordon Lewis, as I kind of expected after my previous experiences with his films. Color Me Blood Red is apparently part of a trilogy with Blood Feast and 2000 Maniacs!, although the films don't have much to do with each other in terms of story. And you can actually guess that story from the film poster: a painter uses blood to make his paintings, and that of course escalates when he kills his models so he can use their blood. The film certainly has some boring moments in the beginning, but as the film progresses it slowly becomes more entertaining. Especially when Lewis uses his typical gore moments, although it remains rather limited in terms of blood and gore. Still a small pass.

The paintings of obsessive artist Adam Sorg [Don Joseph, pseudonym of Gordon Oas-Heim] fail to please art critic Gregorovich [William Harris]. Until he uses the blood of his fiancée [Elyn Warner] to give his work a bit more color. Don Joseph looks like Peter Lorre (and does a decent imitation), but apart from that there's not much good to say about him. Jim Jaekel and Pat Finn-Lee get on your nerves the most as the 'comedy duo' Jack and Sydney.

Fairly mediocre horror film - there is hardly any horror - about a failed artist who sees salvation in decorating his paintings with blood. In order not to always lay hands on himself, he seeks out his victims to act as a blood bank. Except for a few scenes, not really gory, although an attempt is made. Only it is presented rather amateurishly. The color 'red' is often present. It is then up to the viewer to decide whether he or she associates it with blood.

I thought it was a rather dull film with little verve. Not a spectacular film. I expected a few more deaths, but with a liter of blood you can do something of course. I thought it was an intriguing concept. The term 'crazy' or 'genius' is a thin dividing line here.
