Naza plot

On the rooftops of Tel Aviv, far from the war zone, Israeli soldiers hold secret conversations with the filmmakers at night. Step by step, it becomes visible how the army and intelligence services determine who is a target, which technologies and procedures are employed, and how many civilian casualties an attack is allowed to cost. Dozens, sometimes hundreds, of Palestinian civilians can be considered an acceptable price for eliminating a single target. The film thus poses the painful question: how can the killing of innocent civilians become so normalized within a military apparatus that it is no longer viewed as a moral or legal problem? The title is an acronym for nezek agavi (collateral damage).

The director of No Other Land managed to persuade 23 Israeli soldiers to anonymously reveal on a rooftop terrace in Tel Aviv the tactics the army uses to destroy Gaza and eliminate Hamas. The title is the military term used for 'collateral damage,' often involving women and children. The stories are impressive and Abraham asks sharp, relevant questions, but there is little clarity regarding the reliability of the testimonies. Moreover, the epilogue makes it clear that Abraham and Szor certainly cannot be called objective. Particularly interesting as an exposition of modern warfare.

Five stars. Although this documentary tells us what we already know, it is not just about the details of the genocide Israel is currently committing against the Palestinians, but primarily about how a human being can create so much hatred towards a population group that those in power view it as a game, which they even find "funny." Whether the victims are men, women, or children is irrelevant, because 'in Gaza, no one is innocent.' No longer seeing people as people, but as "Naza." This, along with footage revealing Netanyahu's hypocrisy and an IDF soldier realizing he is no better than a Nazi, makes this film an important document for the history books, until the moment comes when we dare to say that we stood on the wrong side of this history, so that our future prime minister can offer his or her apologies for it once again. And so history repeats itself, time and time again.
