Moses the Lawgiver plot

"Announcing the Most Magnificent Human Spectacle Ever Filmed!"

In the distant past there lived a Pharaoh who saw the people of Israel as a threat to their land and culture. They were very prolific and they increased in number rapidly. So he gave the order to kill every firstborn son of the Israelites, and the people of Israel were enslaved. When Moses is born, his parents are afraid that Moses will also be killed, so he is put in a basket on the Nile. There he is found by the sister of the pharaoh, unfortunately she has always remained childless and she raises Moses as if it were her own child. When Moses is an adult, it turns out that he is actually an Israeli and when one of the guards mistreats one of his people, he accidentally kills them.

The week before Easter I went on a biblical tour and that became this Moses the Lawgiver of which I had the film version lying around and in the meantime I understood that it is not half as good as the miniseries of 5 hours. Nevertheless I started it up together with my father who knows the Bible practically by heart.

The story is clear in any case with the expected Bible and especially Moses as a guideline in this film where I can still remember one thing or another from my time at the Christian primary school. Anyway, true or not, human interpretation or not, films like The Bible: in the beginning, The ten commandments and The last temptation of Christ I find interesting anyway and that also counts for this Moses. As already said, the story may be known about Moses in the basket, found and taken in, taking care of the fate of the Jews and discovering his real background whereupon the battle can begin to get his people out of Egypt.

For those with a little knowledge of the Bible, much will not be unfamiliar with the plagues, the false or half promises, the exodus, the persecution and the Red Sea. The only real downside is that it all goes very fast and in that sense is mainly concise, which of course makes sense since this is a film/cinema version of a miniseries of about five hours. Quayle is good and Lancaster does his best where the observations of the real prophet Moses must have been frightening and strange. And with the rumbling in the distance, the film succeeds to a certain extent with a certain mystery and frighteningness. Then of course the soundtrack by Morricone should not be forgotten, which of course can be called strong. In all honesty, this film does not compare well with the previously mentioned Biblical films, therefore only a 3, despite the fact that this was not exactly a punishment to watch.
