"People have a funny way of growing on you."
Grieving widow Diane Patterson must arrange her husband's funeral with a complete stranger: Jamie Simms. He is the assistant of her son, with whom she has lost contact. As they navigate their grief and the strange circumstances they find themselves in, hidden secrets and long-held resentments surface. But their collaboration proves to be an unlikely source of connection, laughter, and healing for this mother and her unexpected surrogate son.

A good film in which a woman receives help from her son's assistant to arrange her husband's funeral. A simple premise: a dialogue-driven film that largely takes place in a house. The film could easily have been based on a play. The relationship between the two main characters is immediately strained from the excellent opening and develops beautifully. Certainly also thanks to the good performance of Allison Janney. Easily 3.5 stars.
