Credible Messengers Amsterdam plot

Young people in Amsterdam who have become involved in (drug) crime are often difficult to reach for help. Due to bad experiences and mistrust, many of these young people avoid regular support services. Fortunately, there is a group of Amsterdammers who do manage to get through to these young people: the credible messengers. They have personal experience in the criminal underworld and can help the young people break free from the criminal world like no one else. This documentary follows young people for a year as they, through trial and error, work on building a new life.

2026 is still halfway through, but it is the best Dutch documentary so far.

Uslu and Kok (Jongens Zonder Thuis, Lifelines) follow four staff members of Credible Messengers Amsterdam. They are ex-offenders who use their experience to help young people with a criminal record get and stay on the right path. Remarkable due to the cooperation of the counselors and the young people, making this an honest and revealing portrait of the value of (this form of) youth care.
