In the 1920s, the alcoholic painter Antoine has hit rock bottom since the death of his wife Irène. Not only does he find no inspiration for new work, but he also blames himself for her death. The penniless circus performer Suzanne poses as a clairvoyant, causing her to cross paths with Antoine, who is seeking contact with his wife. Antoine's art dealer Armand wants to prevent Antoine from collapsing at all costs and urges Suzanne to continue the deception.

At a fair, painter Antoine [Pio Marmaï] mistakes Suzanne [Anaïs Demoustier] for a spiritual medium. He offers her a large sum of money if she can put him in contact with his deceased wife Irène [Vimala Pons]. Because of the money, she plays along, and Antoine perks up. Antoine's sponsor [Gilles Lellouche] therefore offers Suzanne a generous income to continue playing her act and gives her Irène's diaries. Salvadori offers an amusing glimpse behind the scenes of a 1920s fair in a tasteless but predictable rom-com that would have worked better if Salvadori had had his cast act a bit more subtly.
