Remarkably Bright Creatures (2026)

A mediocre film about a somewhat older woman who works as a cleaner at an aquarium. The film starts off quite well in itself and everything looks pretty nice (especially with the fish, etc.). But the story is presented quite sentimentally and the plot twist is also fairly predictable.

Surprisingly pleasant film! A narrative about an octopus communicating with an older woman? I certainly had my doubts about that. But here, it works wonderfully and, strangely enough, quite well. This is a lighthearted film with weighty themes. Somewhere along the line, the filmmakers found the right tone in adapting a book with a remarkable story. The film looks neatly produced, with plenty of beautiful local color, and calm acting and camerawork. It is all a bit sentimental—especially the ending—but that doesn't bother me at all. On the contrary... it turns into a delightful feel-good movie. This is a pleasant viewing experience!

The film didn't really work for me, a bit too bland although it does have its heart in the right place. But also a bit messy with subplots that mainly make the film longer than it needs to be. 2.0*.
