A decent war film. The story is an underexposed aspect of the preparations for D-Day. The execution is somewhat inconsistent but generally positive. The film remains engaging until the end and relies mainly on the dialogue, several of which are very strong. So don't expect suspense or action. Scott, Fraser, and Messina deliver convincing performances and carry the film. Unfortunately, the film contains some unnecessary subplots, and the footage of the D-Day attack feels a bit forced, likely intended as bait for the trailers. 3.0/3.5

A good film in which a meteorologist has to advise on whether it is wise to launch a large-scale attack on Germany. Although the plot and, of course, the outcome are predictable, this film about D-Day remains entertaining. The decision-making process and the various interests at play are well portrayed. Good acting and a fine performance by Brendan Fraser as General Eisenhower.

Not a dull moment, interesting subject matter (even though some things are completely inaccurate) and both lead actors do a fine job, although Scott's performance remains a bit flat – Fraser suffers less from this in his role; he brings some feeling and personality and has the most interesting part. In any case, it is impressive how there is still some tension (especially by focusing on the pressure on the protagonist), because if you know a bit about the war, you know the date of D-Day as well as the events leading up to it.
But as a film, it is occasionally overdramatized. That whole business with Stagg's wife could have been left out; at least, that opening at home was fine, as was that phone call afterwards. That actually provides information about Stagg as a person and how things work at that headquarters. But after that, it mostly distracts and doesn't really influence the film. After all, Stagg just carries on. And certainly around the halfway point, with the exaggerated roles of an unconvincing Messina as Colonel Krick and an overacting Lewis, the film certainly doesn't improve things. 3.0*.
