The Dating Game plot
In China, there are approximately 30 million more single men than women. For Zhou, Li, and Wu, finding a partner is therefore anything but straightforward. In a last-ditch effort, they sign up for a seven-day dating boot camp, led by Hao, one of the country's most sought-after dating coaches. Hao's method? "Strategic deception." He teaches the men how to present themselves differently, both online and in real life. From makeovers to behavioral changes: everything to increase their chances of a date.

To combat overpopulation, China introduced the one-child policy in 1979. An unforeseen side effect is that there are now far more young men than women. This makes it much harder for Chinese men to start a family. Du Feng follows three young men who invest in a dating and seduction course. Given social media culture, friction quickly arises between the need to distinguish themselves from other "candidates" and the importance of self-acceptance. Despite the unique situation these men find themselves in, this illustrates the frustrations and insecurities that every young dater in 2025 struggles with.
