A nice Netflix for when it's cold outside and you're snuggled up on the couch with a blanket, dreaming about the coming summer. Sunny images, two main characters who don't hurt my eyes, and no story to pay attention to. It's a shame that the story is still two hours long; it could have been 45 minutes shorter. Still, it has a certain charm. For example, I watched with some admiration the moment when Alex helps Poppy out of her dress and we viewers see it in the mirror, so the film still passes the most prudish test. It may be a rom-com, but the creators clearly know what they're doing. It's a shame they didn't inject a bit more humor; the whole thing was just a bit lackluster.
By the way, I thought I'd definitely seen that girl playing Poppy before. But no, that turns out not to be the case. The unbearable lightness of being an interchangeable movie star, that's the kind of feeling it gives me—and also the somewhat annoying, nagging question of who I could possibly be confusing her with. Tom Blyth is easier; he's half Miles Teller and half Robert Pattinson.

Emily Bader and Tom Blyth are undoubtedly the driving forces behind People We Meet on Vacation, sharing a subtle yet infectious chemistry. Although director Brett Haley makes excessive and unnecessary use of expressionistic, childish humor, especially in the first half, the story still manages to draw the viewer in, creating refreshing and effective sparks towards the end. It's not particularly original, but the chronological play keeps the viewer engaged, and the smooth narrative style remains consistent throughout.

Not bad. Far too long for this kind of film, but the chemistry between Blyth and Bader is there, and both give a good performance, making the film enjoyable enough to avoid being boring. Otherwise, a pretty standard film that offers no surprises. 3.0*
