Emma is fifteen years old. After being raped, she becomes pregnant. She defies her repressive Protestant rural community to forge a path of self-determination. She transforms her trauma into a catalyst for emancipation, while confronting the moral hypocrisy of the village and the specter of World War II around her.

It is 1943 in Switzerland when 17-year-old Emma [Lila Gueneau] begins to ponder moral issues, including the meaning of “virtue,” when her village community refuses to take in French refugees. She has sex with the fabulously wealthy Louis [Cyril Metzger], who rejects and threatens her when she discovers she is pregnant. The “virtuous” Paul [Thomas Doret] prevents a scandal and keeps Emma’s chances of winning the virtue prize alive. This corny melodrama attempts, without much success, to draw a parallel to the way Europe deals with refugees today. Gueneau is an emotionally open book, making it hard to believe that no one realizes what is really going on.
