Obsession is a really cool horror film that is particularly strong due to its oppressive atmosphere. Aside from a few jumpscares, the tension really gets under your skin, precisely because you often sense that something is going wrong but are still surprised by how bizarre or intense it becomes. Inde Navarrette is amazing and delivers a creepy, intense performance. Surprising, unsettling, and definitely worth watching.

An excellent film in which a young man wishes his childhood sweetheart would fall in love with him. A premise that could easily have resulted in a rom-com, but this undeniably original film takes a different approach. Funny and unsettling, with Inde Navarrette undoubtedly having a lot of fun with her role. A tad slow and the introduction of the characters could have lasted a bit longer, but still a solid 4.0 stars.

RIDICULOUS movie....

I went to the cinema with very high expectations after reading the earlier reviews. I really don't understand the reviews at all. Not exciting at all. Only 1 real jump scare. More of a comedy than a horror/thriller.

The film begins as a typical Gen Z movie about the difficulties of modern dating life, revolving around personal boundaries, the requirement of 'consent,' and the dreaded friend zone. But even when an obsessive love degenerates into a horror comedy, it remains, due to that format, typically a film for young people: in the film, a boy wishes that a beautiful colleague would fall in love with him after which the girl, as if hypnotized, suddenly develops a manic crush on him and becomes a veritable love terrorist – a mistress from hell.

Just like the girl in The Exorcist, she is clearly not herself, so that within the familiar theme of 'be careful what you wish for,' you can discern some depth as a warning against false love, such as that of a sex robot or sex slave, as well as the notion that true love does not demand that the other person be different from who they are. However, you do not get the impression that the film wants to explore deeper layers: the film simply wants to magnify adolescent infatuation—and infatuation is by definition an obsession and scary—into pure horror (which, of course, it can also become in real life in the case of stalking). All in all, the film reminds me of many other movies that have already exhaustively explored the themes of obsessive love, possession, and wish fulfillment with disastrous consequences. The film fails to even come up with a strong ending. But otherwise, the film is entertaining.
