The nearly 90-year-old 14th Dalai Lama is physically quite decrepit. To a 97-year-old woman, he expresses his hope of living to over 100. Yet, this monologue on the importance of controlling the human mind can be considered the visual testament of the Tibetan spiritual leader in exile. Those familiar with Tibetan culture and the worldview the Dalai Lama has actively promoted for decades will gain little new insight from this. But Delaquis and Miller reinforce the message with a meticulously composed collage of archive footage and new material. The optimism is encouraging, but the message is in danger of being lost, especially towards the end, due to Ariel Marx's emphatic musical score.
