In 1970s Detroit, John Miller falls for Sophia, the girlfriend of a local gangster. Naturally, she's not pleased and sets up a scheme to frame Miller. His plan works, landing him in prison, where he plots revenge.

A film needs no words to carry. Like this one. We enjoyed it. My girlfriend even said: a piece of cinematic art is being shown here, and if this prompts me to write this, then it is more than successful.

Mediocre action movie. The story is a standard revenge variation and very predictable. The execution isn't great, but it is original due to the absence of dialogue except for a few sentences. The lack of text is cleverly compensated for by a strong soundtrack linked to the scenes, but it is insufficient to truly draw the viewer into the film. Combined with the wafer-thin plot, the film quickly leads to boredom. Visually, the film is reasonably strong, with a number of well-filmed (action) scenes and a nice 70s setting. Ritchson delivers a decent performance. I just don't understand why they didn't opt for an entirely textless film. 2.5

Quite memorable. Precisely because there is no dialogue, the film is more memorable and special than it would be if there were. The film is essentially one long montage. It is just images and music, and that is essentially what film is. The film is atmospheric and stylish. Ultimately, it is also Ben Foster's role that makes the film good for me. He plays quite a unique gangster type whom I cannot compare to other gangsters, and he possesses psychological depth even though there is no dialogue.
