Goeie Mensen plot

The documentary focuses on the founders of the Dutch food bank, Sjaak and Clara Sies. The film offers an intimate look at their lives. For years, Sjaak and Clara have been committed to helping people in Rotterdam who live in poverty. The food bank grew into a national organization under this couple. They then started a soup kitchen and a social café. Now that Sjaak (83) and Clara (72) are getting older, they notice that the work is becoming increasingly difficult. The documentary follows the last period before they really retire.

Regarding the 60 minute version

In 2002, Sjaak and Clara Sies founded the Food Bank to help the needy in their neighborhood in South Rotterdam. Sjaak is now 83 and has heart problems, while Clara is 72 and has difficulty walking. It was high time to step back, so they handed over their responsibilities to Martin, a former security guard and one of the many volunteers who almost all know firsthand what it's like to live in poverty and the value of having a place where you're welcome and can (for example) just chat. The ever-modest Sjaak and Clara deserve this tribute, which offers a glimpse behind the scenes and into the reception area of the Food Bank. What's missing is attention to the background and motivations of this couple.
