It is a shame that this is supposed to be the next step in the career of director Alex Noyer, who started his feature film debut quite promisingly a few years ago. Love is the Monster looks visually sharp and well thought out, but indulges too much in weirdness to the point of being forced. Furthermore, the hint is not all that subtle, as from the very first few minutes Noyer makes it abundantly clear that something is amiss on that Finnish island. The protagonists' general acting is decent, but the cult leaders are convincingly guilty of overacting, and the finale hangs together like loose sand. Lots of explicit filth and sex scenes, but a lack of coherence that benefits mainly from the visual design and few other angles.
