Clémence, a lawyer, leaves her husband to embrace her true self. Her ex-husband fights for custody of their son Paul and manipulates him. As their relationship deteriorates, Clémence struggles to maintain her maternal bond.

Film adaptation of Constance Debré's book about bisexual mother Clémence [Vicky Krieps], who, three years after an amicable divorce from Laurent [Antoine Reinartz], is unexpectedly confronted with a bitter custody battle over their then eight-year-old son [Viggo Farreira-Redier]. Over a period of years, we discover the consequences of that struggle and the inability of both the mother and official authorities (including the police) to ensure that Laurent adheres to the arrangement. Cambet tells the story entirely from Clémence's perspective. As a result, this has become a layered character study, but she also fails to reveal the extent to which Laurent is actually manipulating the situation.
