98-year-old David Attenborough has seen the wonders of nature with his own eyes, but there is one place that was barely known until recently. The depths of the most remote places in our oceans. And so we get beautiful images of the colorful, often newly discovered inhabitants of the ocean. The three directors stick tightly to the familiar format of a nature documentary, so a lot of slow motion, stylized sound and a bombastic, epic score that gets quite boring after a while. Ocean is very critical of the industrial way in which humans threaten to decimate the fish population (and with it the entire ecosystem of the oceans), especially with trawlers, but also shows how we can make the ocean (and with it the world) flourish again with a simple intervention. Consciously released in May 2025 because of the UN Ocean Conference that took place in June 2025 in the hope of influencing the decision-making.

Attenborough at his most confrontational; on the one hand extremely pessimistic, on the other hand surprisingly hopeful. Now that his own death is fast approaching, he passionately tries to warn humanity once more and hopefully save it from destruction. Beautiful images of our oceans, polluted and overfished or not. Not an easy viewing experience, but an important one.
