BDW Politiek Beest plot

A documentary that provides an insight into the thought world of one of the most striking and fascinating Belgian politicians of the past decades: Bart de Wever. Ten years ago, Paul Jambers was the only journalist who had the opportunity to film BDW behind the scenes on election day. He was able to do this again during the following 5 elections.

For those who have followed politics more or less over the past ten years, there is actually nothing new here. Jambers' unique style has its charm, but does not really come into its own here. BDW is in fact one long monologue by talker Bart De Wever, who apparently only surrounds himself with yes-men who only walk around there to accept the Latin proverbs and cynical remarks with approval. It is uncomfortable. It is true that Bart De Wever is one of the few in Flemish politics who we cannot immediately dismiss as an intellectual featherweight, but the personality cult can now stop.

Bad.

The usually not too modest Paul Jambers succeeds in making a completely uninteresting portrait of Flanders' greatest politician of the past decade, the self-proclaimed political beast Bart De Wever. For anyone who follows politics even a little bit, there is nothing to discover here. The 'documentary' seems mainly a succession of scenes in which De Wever sells hot air: Latin proverbs, half-hearted analyses of opponents and the like. The yes-men around him are numerous. A failed documentary film. Jambers' style is really worn out after more than 30 years.
