Now that Walter Kovacs/Rorschach [Titus Welliver] has been arrested for a murder he didn't commit, Dan Dreiberg [Matthew Rhys] and Sally Jupiter [Adrienne Barbeau] realize that someone really does want to get rid of all the former superheroes. To prevent this (and save the world), they need the help of Jonathan Osterman, but Osterman has retreated to Mars after the events of Chapter I and doesn't feel like lending a helping hand. Since this is essentially one long film cut in two, the rating is the same as Chapter I.

Fine, but it still feels like mustard after the meal after Snyder's excellent editing.

What remains strange is that in Rorschach's escape from jail, more or less the same gore is used as in Snyder's version, which was not in the graphic novel (with a saw). It is more faithful to the use of the giant creature instead of the atomic bomb.

What I liked better here was Laurie's appearance, not only more true to the comic but also more beautiful, including the outfit. Ozymandias and Night Owl are also done more faithfully. Furthermore, there is little that really stands out, it is mainly solid. The Black Freighter I found a bit unnecessary as said but it is also done a bit lazily with just screenshots of the comic itself.

For the die-hard fans who want to devour everything from Watchmen, this is not to be missed and certainly a fine adaptation. The difference with Snyder's version is (apart from live action of course) that it stimulates the senses much more with image and sound, where this is a more sober and faithful adaptation. Not everyone is crazy about Snyder's style with his slow motions (and excessive gore), his music choices or his casting. For someone who really wants the pure Watchmen experience without wanting to read the book right away, this is probably the best substitute.
