Out of My Mind plot
Melody Brooks is a sixth-grader with cerebral palsy. She is quick-witted and quick-witted, but because she is nonverbal and uses a wheelchair, she doesn’t have the same opportunities as her classmates. When a young teacher discovers her untapped potential and Melody is transferred to a regular school, Melody shows that what she has to say is more important than how she says it.

Nice movie about a teenage girl with cerebral palsy who wants to go to a normal school. Despite the main character not being able to talk, the movie succeeds in showing what is going on in her mind (and not just because of the pleasant voice-over of Jennifer Aniston). Just short of 3.5 stars because the movie goes on a bit too long and is sometimes a bit on the tame side.

Due to cerebral palsy, Melody Brooks [Phoebe-Rae Taylor] is physically disabled and unable to speak. She thrives in the special needs class of Mrs. Billups [Sharron Matthews], but her father [Luke Kirby] realizes that Melody has more potential. Thanks to Dr. Katherine Ray [Courtney Taylor], Melody gets the chance to participate in a 'regular' 6th grade class for a while. In addition, her parents purchase a communication device that finally allows her to make herself understood, literally. Coming-of-age drama paints a realistic picture of the relationship between parents and a child with a disability who yearns for more independence. Taylor is perfect in the lead role and Judith Light (Who's The Boss) is amusing as the vivacious neighbor. The first half is amusing and touching, but as soon as the script focuses on a school competition, the originality disappears.
