"Piet Hein, his name is small, his deeds are great. He has won the silver fleet." A song that used to be taught at school, because he was a folk hero for his conquest of the Spanish Silver Fleet. Nowadays, there is increasing criticism of him as part of the colonial system. What do we do with Piet Hein? Does he actually still deserve a statue? Or perhaps a higher pedestal? And what text should be on the accompanying sign? In this documentary, director Tim van den Hoff humorously exposes the discomfort that administrators struggle with while trying to care for their heritage.

In September 1628, the Dutch fleet commander Piet Hein inflicted the most sensitive defeat in history on the enemy Spanish fleet. The capture of the Silver Fleet is still sung about in a children's song and statues have been erected for him in various places in the Netherlands. The enormous booty of the Silver Fleet was used to significantly increase the slave trade or the production of enslaved people. That is why the restoration of monuments for Piet Hein is now a major topic of discussion. Van den Hoff does give room to representatives of the Cuban city of Matanzas, where Piet Hein is adored, but the critics do not get much further than a few one-liners. He does succeed in making it clear how important it is to govern the history of historical figures such as Piet Hein before forming an opinion.
