Sketch plot
The Wyatt family struggles to cope with the death of their mother. Widower Taylor buries all the painful memories and decides to move elsewhere so that his children can more easily move on with their lives. However, his son Jack fantasizes about his mother's resurrection and his sister Amber fills her sketchbook with bizarre drawings. When the book falls into a magical pond, its contents come to life.

This film reminded me strongly of those classic films that offered fantasy and adventure while conveying relevant themes and genuine emotion; 'Sketch' possesses that creative grounding and emotional underpinnings, as it addresses our need for creative expression as a means of emotional catharsis. It's limited, takes itself more seriously than it needs to, and lacks a unique atmosphere and narrative solidity, but it remains a film we need more than we care to admit.
An unexpected 6.5/10. A modern fantasy film about creatively processing emotions that just lacked the budget to make its narrative and visuals more powerful. Nevertheless, my best friend and his little sister and I enjoyed this film, which has more to offer than you might initially think. The ending, in particular, touched me somewhat.

An imaginative, beautifully crafted story about coping with grief, packaged as a youth adventure film. Thankfully, it never becomes childish, and the film balances pleasantly between humor and suspense, with likable characters and inventive special effects. Towards the end, it does run out of steam a bit, and the script's shortcomings start to become apparent, but overall, this is a fresh and especially promising debut from director Seth Worley.
