Randy Schoenberg is a descendant of the famous composer Arnold Schoenberg, but in this sleep-inducing documentary he drags his 18-year-old son Joey across Europe on a quest for documents and gravestones that contain the names of family members from the past. Joey can barely hide his boredom, and yet it’s about his ancestors! So what possessed Matthew Mishory to film this story? Because it’s about a Jewish family, forced emigration is a common thread in the family history, but Schoenberg is a dry narrator. Perhaps genealogy enthusiasts or people with a long Jewish history will get more out of this.
