A self-portrait of the director and his oeuvre. It revisits more than 40 years of the author's filmography in free form. The film reflects on the most important stops of his life, while capturing the political shocks of the time. For an exhibition that ultimately never took place, the Pompidou Museum asked the filmmaker to answer the question in images: “Where are you, Leos Carax?”

The film is a collage (or "cut-up") of seemingly unrelated images (including those from film history), music, and short scenes loosely held together by Carax's reflection on his life and art. Sometimes the images seem random, and sometimes they seem to touch on themes like life, dreams, hatred, the Shoah, art, and aboriginalism. Because of the freeform technique, it sometimes verges on video art, but the lack of a clear line or theme also makes it somewhat tiresome. If there were a central theme, it would be the way we see—the quintessential theme of visual art.
