There may be an idea behind the film's images and music - the universal desire of youth to dance, sing and leave their native land to seek a better life elsewhere, ultimately returning home older and wiser, like Odysseus - but the lack of story and dialogue makes the film above all a long series of random images of 25 years of China that are briefly interesting as a kind of documentary but that quickly become boring due to the lack of story or dialogue, so that you hardly even get to know the two 'main characters'.

The extremely boring love story of Qiaoqiao [Tao Zhao] and Guo Bin [Zhubin Li] begins at the beginning of the new millennium and ends in 2024. Guo Bin decides to seek his fortune elsewhere shortly after, Qiaoqiao stays behind and suffers in silence. The only bright spots in her life come from Chinese technology. The episode about the pandemic confirms what is already clear: this is unadulterated propaganda in the form of a hymn to one's native soil and the cliché that nowhere ticks like home. A soporific dragon of a film, despite the beautiful pictures by Eric Gautier and Nelson Lik-wai Yu.

Well done. As a story less interesting and the fact that this is a collage of different films does not help. Especially in the first part this is too much a collection of separate scenes. Although some separate moments were cool. From the second part the right rhythm is found and the film is easy to watch. Especially as a chronicle of the rise of China as a hypermodern country the film works well. You see how in 20 years the cities (the trains and flats) and people and clothing become a lot more modern. Then the film does less on a story level but fortunately has enough to tell. Only the experience could have been much better. 3.0*.
