It's kept very short, and that works in itself, though it's occasionally a bit episodic to fully capture my attention, and the film is even a bit slow despite its short length. The sketchy style is very nice, but more suited to a picture book, though that's perfectly fine with this film. However, that also makes the film somewhat detached.

Nevertheless, it's a nice snapshot of the times and, above all, a beautiful depiction of a boy's growing up and his relationship with his parents (mother and stepfather, it turns out), just perfectly normal people experiencing normal things. For that reason alone, this film deserves a solid 3.5*.
