I have a high regard for the Belgian Lubna Azabal after having seen her previous films. Here she plays a rather unremarkable role in which she cannot fully use her qualities. The focus is also more on Bruni-Tedeschi who, as a single mother of a teenager, has a very hard time making ends meet financially. She is also completely mentally exhausted and makes a number of strange decisions. It does not benefit the relationship with her otherwise well-behaved son.

The Parisian suburbs are just bleak and unstimulating. You are confronted daily with your own failures. What a Christmas present she gives her son!

Not entirely convinced in terms of content. I was quite into the film and sympathized with the mother, but the further course of events is presented in a very simplistic manner. A film that leaves too little of its mark to really catch on.
