To Kill a Tiger plot

"A man. His daughter. The trial of their lives."

When the thirteen-year-old daughter of Ranjit, a farmer from India, is raped by three men, he discovers that they are acquaintances. The police arrest the perpetrators, but the family's relief is short-lived as the villagers and their leaders force Ranjit to drop the charges. They demand that the girl marry one of her rapists – a tried and true community solution. According to them, this is the only way to restore her honor and that of the community. In this documentary, Ranjit defies their orders and embarks on an arduous journey to find justice, navigating both the labyrinth of India's courts and the increasing dangers in his village.

The earth is a terrible place, especially for women, and no, not just in India. There it sounds: she must have looked for it herself, how often do you hear that here in the west, quite often too!!!

So every 20 minutes a woman is raped in India, and most of the time this goes without consequences. A documentary that made me very angry, what terrible people in that village, I don't know that I wouldn't do other things....

I found it a very interesting documentary and it also gives an interesting insight into such a village community in India. The villagers are all shockingly short-sighted, and I was happy with the happy ending, at least... With the caveat that I find 25 years in prison a very long time.

Kiran was 13 years old when three boys from the same village raped her. In Indian village culture, the village community traditionally decides what should happen and they have proposed to marry Kiran off to one of the rapists so that “her honor” can be saved. Encouraged by wife Jaganti, father Ranjit decides to take legal action. This creates a tense atmosphere in the village, which is reinforced by the regular return of Pahuja and her crew, who unintentionally play a role in this remarkable story that leaves no doubt about the position of women in rural India. The title refers to the final interview in which Ranjit uses it as a metaphor for the struggle he had to wage to get justice for his daughter.
