"One right choice."
A civil war is raging in a vast, seemingly uninhabited landscape. While men fight and die, a silent woman searches for her son, kidnapped by child organ traffickers. She is accompanied by 'the Steppenwolf', an ex-con who has turned his life around and is now a ruthless detective. The bizarre couple is determined to complete their mission and remove every obstacle - mostly people - from their way.

An impressive, understatedly funny, yet also extremely violent revenge film from Kazakhstan, of all places. In a vast, sparsely populated landscape, a civil war rages, and the bizarre title character, accompanied by a taciturn woman whose son has been kidnapped by child organ traffickers, randomly wipes out entire tribes of people. Berik Aytzhanov is irresistible in the wacky lead role; his character is so outlandish at times that it gives the film that extra something. It's a shame that things sag a bit towards the end, because I would have liked to rate it even higher. The cinematography and production design of Steppenwolf are otherwise top-notch.
