Mediocre film about a Chinese boy who moves to New York with his mother to start a new life there. Clichéd and sometimes unbelievably developed characters. The link with a few other parts seems a bit forced. Here and there entertaining, a nice setting and the cast does a nice job too. Just under 3.0 stars.

I don't know any other films in this series so I might have missed some references (although I suspect which people have participated before - this is not the most difficult film and quite predictable) and I don't feel much nostalgia for it. Still, I had a great time. The limited playing time is nice anyway, which makes the pace fine. The film really doesn't bring anything new, the opponent (of course that will be the finale) is pretty colorless and this thing doesn't really manage to surprise anywhere. But what the film does well, it does more than well right away. Nice atmosphere of New York (the somewhat narrower screen makes the high-rise buildings stand out better and in any case some cool shots, often with a somewhat zoomed-in camera that provides a nice effect) and the characters are quite nice. Outside the cinema I had already forgotten about the film, but that's fine. 3.0*.

Well-acted and enthusiastically filmed fight film with a healthy balance between drama and action, if it weren't for the fact that this kind of films have been made hundreds of times in the past. Director Jonathan Entwistle fortunately brings it all in a light-hearted way and lead actor Ben Wang can deliver a good punch, but the pity is that everything is set up rather predictably and with Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio it aims too emphatically for nostalgia. The fights are also abundantly present, but almost all too short to really stick. It is all sympathetic, but it will not stay with you for long.
