What the fuck was this??? Los Olvidados (Film, 2017) was a wonderful genre piece. Brutal, gory, atmospheric, beautifully shot. That's why I was so enthusiastic when I found out this sequel existed. But what a total disgrace. Everything that made the previous part so great is missing here.

What on earth was the point of this film adaptation? It is essentially a remake of the original, but tamer and with an English speaking cast instead of a Spanish one. Note: these are broken English speaking Argentinians. Was it made purely to be able to release the story more widely with an English cast? The original simply had a neat Dutch DVD release, so you can't imagine that being the reason. There are Argentinian films that are harder to find, so to speak.

In everything it is a lot less than its predecessor. Practically no gore. The kills are really rated PG. Hardly any atmosphere. Cinematography is a lot worse. Only the scenes in Epecuen are beautiful, but you have to be a really big oaf not to get that on screen nicely. No pace or originality at all. We even have to deal with some family issues in the group of human flesh eating freaks.

Even the actors who play the family don't seem to be interested in it at all. Everything seems to have been filmed on autopilot. Huge disappointment.

By the way, the morbid ruin of the Matadero is actually in the middle of Epecuen. It remains a cool picture. Argentina should be added to the list of holiday destinations.
