Overall, I thought the plot was reasonable, with a police officer becoming entangled in a mafia web of corruption, although he does not realize this at first. The same policeman comes across as rather schmucky, which brings the film down rather than gaining bonus points. It didn't really fit with the genre of film. This is a crime film and to be convincing you need tension and toughness. The latter is somewhat lacking.
The first part of the film is nice concerns the discharge of the corpse, in combination with the death of his mother. As so often happens, things get a bit out of hand later on. The characters as a whole are also not sufficiently charismatic to really make things swing. The bad guy seems more like a nerd to me and the rest of the police force is completely incompetent.
All in all, a decent snack, and I certainly wasn't bored. But it is certainly not of great quality.

Funny movie.
Never saw the Korean original, but did see the Taiwanese remake. That was fun, this one just a little bit better. Thanks to Okada, who plays the perfect role. A somewhat dimwitted police officer who is having a hard time, partly due to the series of stupid decisions he makes. The rest of the cast is also on par.
Furthermore visually also cared for, a second part that slowly derails and a soundtrack that does its job, although Fujii managed to make more of an impression with that in earlier films. Exceptional cinema this is not, but very strong genre work in which the separate parts often bring just a little more than required.
