Monster im Kopf plot

Young Sandra finds herself in the most unfavorable situation for an expectant mother. Although she is behind bars for grievous bodily harm, she fights for her child to stay with her after birth. However, the responsible authorities and social workers are not so sure. They are afraid that Sandra will fall back into old patterns and, in the worst case, harm the child. One thing soon becomes clear: the young mother does not always have everything under control and often loses her patience.

Sandra is about to give birth to a son and is in prison. In flashbacks, we discover the mix of circumstances and personal shortcomings that have led her to this complicated situation. Naturally, her lover [Slavko Popadic] and her dependent mother [Martin Eitner-Acheampong] play key roles. An impressive tour de force for Hartmann, who is well-matched by Popadic and Eitner-Acheampong. The location work enhances the authenticity, but Sandra evokes little sympathy, and the screenplay, especially towards the end, is very melodramatic.
