Adagio plot
Sixteen-year-old Manuel takes care of his elderly father. When he is blackmailed, he takes pictures of a mysterious person. However, he feels cheated and flees the scene, but his blackmailers want to get rid of him. For protection, Manuel targets two old acquaintances of his father who have a past in the criminal environment.

After a few Hollywood excursions, director Stefano Sollima is back in his home country Italy and doing what he does best; making hard-hitting crime films. Unfortunately, this is not among his best work, with a sparse and predictably developed plot, little action and a running time that is too long. What saves the film, however, are the truly masterful roles of Pierfrancesco Favino and Toni Servillo, both of whom far exceed the material here. Favino in particular (whom I didn't even recognize at first) is great here. What a transformation.
