"Murder is so 1987."
On Halloween, teenager Jamie's mother is murdered. Jamie accidentally ends up in the year 1987, the year in which three teenagers are murdered. There she joins forces with the younger version of her mother to stop the killer. Jamie risks being stuck in the past.

Good film about a girl who ends up in the past to stop a serial killer. A self-aware slasher with a time travel element packaged as a comedy. An entertainingly developed story and it plays nicely with a number of issues (such as the paradoxes associated with time travel and the difference between the ways of now and the past).

Nice comedy/horror to see once, but nothing more than that.
A story with a time machine is not new and I always think it has something to it. Unfortunately, you see little technology of this time in the year 1987, where Jamie ultimately ends up to catch the killer. You also occasionally hear some references about 2023, but that could have been a bit more. The 80s atmosphere came across well with nice music and references to films, etc. An annoyance were those 'children' and their language. they were portrayed stereotypically.
Anyway, in the end the film revolved around the killer and who was behind the mask and what his motives were. With the first killer I didn't know who was behind it, but when there turned out to be a second killer I did. my suspicions are strong.
Furthermore, the kills were not very special and, apart from the time machine, this was an average slasher film that makes you smile every now and then.

Nice mix of Scream and Back To The Future, smoothly made and enthusiastically performed. The script is a bit lazy at times, especially towards the end, but until then this is a very entertaining and often very funny comedy horror film. A bit more could have been done with the time travel aspect, but let's just ignore it.
