In terms of content, this horror film by director Michael Bafaro hits like a pair of pliers to a pig, but the effect is nevertheless quite funny. Especially on a conceptual level, Don't Look Away wins a lot of points, and the build-up of tension is subtle enough to support that. However, as a viewer you will have to take into account that the acting is not very spectacular, so that the urgency or passion is simply nowhere to be felt. Fortunately, the run-up is short and concise, so the film provides enough entertainment, but once the last half hour arrives, screenwriters Michael Mitton and Bafaro themselves seemed to no longer have any control over the whole thing. It all gets bogged down in a rather messy jumble of various ideas that don't go together, but the first hour offers enough action to keep you entertained. Extra credit for the sometimes strikingly graphic bloodshed.
