Starve Acre plot

In the 1970s, Richard and Juliette see their son Ewan's behavior change. This drives a wedge between the otherwise close couple. As an archaeologist, Richard digs deeper into the myths surrounding the ancient oak tree on their domain, believing it to possess supernatural powers. Meanwhile, Juliette turns to the locals. The family makes a discovery.

A difficult film. Starve Acre is certainly dripping with atmosphere, but not with cheerfulness - it is a film full of mourning, claustrophobia and mystery. But it is also really excruciatingly slow. It drags on at times, with many a scene in the first three quarters mainly focused on undynamic images of a grieving father or a grieving mother, who both seem to go their own way. Later in the film, when the pagan influences become more and more apparent and that strange hare becomes more and more prominent, it starts to become more intriguing. And this setting is also tailor-made for my anglophile body. I'm glad I saw it, well acted with Matt Smith, but it was a very slow sit.
