Don't be fooled by the relatively simple design of The Sacrifice Game, because director Jenn Wexler takes a number of surprising plot twists after a while. What is also immediately noticeable is that the cast members do not consist of the most unknown names, with Mena Massoud in particular standing out positively. The problematic thing about his role is that the dialogue is somewhat silly, but he handles it more than soundly. The real winner, however, is the then 15-year-old Georgie Acken, who has unprecedented charisma for her age. Despite the fact that the plot continues to rely too much on somewhat clichéd cult elements for a long time, Wexler tackles things well after a while and that results in a pretty solid finale. The pity is that the tension does not excel anywhere and the gore effects are of mediocre level, which ultimately prevents The Sacrifice Game from enjoying a certain flair. Nevertheless, the proceedings are entertaining and despite the sometimes television-like effect, the film is easy to watch.

The Sacrifice Game

A Christmas movie, but not?

You can't call this a real Christmas horror. It takes place around Christmas, you also see a decorated tree and some snow, but that's about it. Anyway, 2 girls and 2 teachers stay behind at school when the other children go to celebrate Christmas with their families. However, they are not safe, because a school invasion soon follows. A group of murderers has targeted the school and for a reason.

I thought the movie was really mediocre until about halfway through. Then came the twist and things got a bit more fun. But overall the film failed to convince me. For example, I missed the atmosphere and the killers and other characters were not interesting enough. Who managed to convince me was Clara, who sometimes came across as quite creepy with her demonic character and played her role really well. Unfortunately the rest was quite mediocre.

2.5 stars.

Weak horror movie. The story is simple and has plot holes. The effect is very poor. The first part is still okay and quite entertaining. But the second part is downright bad. It is not exciting and the horror is far below par, partly thanks to the poor CGI. As a viewer you think that things will go wild at some point, but the film fizzles out. The acting isn't good either. 2.0
