A film that I tried to watch mainly because of Ben Foster and also a rough, hardworking men on a boat film, but the clichés were so big that I couldn't handle it anymore. Will not vote but will vote for half. Everything feels forced and artificial and fake. All cringeworthy.

Reasonable drama with a touch of crime. The story is nice but predictable. The film is also full of cliches. But on the other hand, the execution turned out quite well. The structure is good and the protagonists are given enough space to develop. The film also looks great. As mentioned, you can see what is going to happen from afar. Towards the second half, there is some tension added to the drama. The actors do a reasonable job. Visually the film is well put together. Great snack. 3.5

Charlie [Toby Wallace] reconnects with his half-brother Tom [Ben Foster] in the New Bedford fishing port and goes to work as a crew member. During the first fishing expedition, the crew barely escapes death when the ship sinks. Tom's father Ray [Tommy Lee Jones] offers his ship 'Finestkind' for another expedition, but Tom needs a miracle to get out of the debt incurred by the loss of his previous boat. And that is only possible by (figuratively) joining forces with shadowy figures. Of course it doesn't run smoothly. Thanks to the strong performances of Wallace, Foster and Jones, this is a successful family drama and Helgeland credibly brings life and work in a fishing community to life. Clayne Crawford is too caricatured as the villain, which makes it not work as a crime drama. Helgeland would have been better off leaving out the romantic subplot with Jenna Ortega.
