The Stones and Brian Jones plot

Although essential to the band's initial sound as a multi-instrumentalist, Brian Jones went down in history as "The Deceased Stone," the man who fell to a fatal combination of fame, drugs and the swingin' sixties . A footnote at most, good for the necessary drama in the opening chapters. It is as if he had already begun to suspect that in life and well-being.

Successful documentary, consisting of a lot of footage material and carefully chosen talking heads of whom (fortunately) few are shown.

The portrait of the founder of The Stones is shocking. Brian Jones was kicked out of his home by his parents, after which he spent the short rest of his life fluttering in search of affirmation in a band where no one cares about each other. The blues is his solace.

The content is okay and the documentary gives a reasonable picture of Brian Jones as a person and his life during his membership of The Stones. But the documentary is very mediocre as a film. Many still images and especially many interviews mixed into the images. All in all a bit dull and Jones himself is not a very interesting person per se. The parts with Bill Wyman who actually mentions Jones' musical parts of the music and really enjoys them are the best. 2.5*.

I recently saw a live rockumentary concert about Kurt Cobain who, like Brian Jones, died at 27. With Cobain, the cause and mental well-being of artists who are probably the cause of their downfall at a young age were also discussed in more depth. With Jones, you see that less present in this documentary. But we still get a better picture of the Rolling Stone who has been somewhat forgotten over the years. Many only know Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.

The film provides enough footage and apart from a few testimonies, the footage is mainly from the 60s. You do see more of a witness being interviewed in an armchair, many years later. But by only letting the voice be heard with the old footage, you stay more in the atmosphere of the 60s.

Certainly not the best documentary, but interesting enough for music lovers.
