Dancing Queen plot

Mina is a wimpy teenager who wants to fit in at the start of a new school year. In addition, she wants to impress ED Win, a young hip-hop dancer whose number of Instagram followers far exceeds his empathy. Filled with self-doubt, Mina nevertheless challenges herself to enter a dance competition, a journey she embarks on with the support of her feisty grandmother, a fount of no-nonsense wisdom whose candid advice always invites laughter. From an awkward first audition to a show number, Mina learns how to fight the demon of self-doubt.

Excellent film! The characters are flesh and blood and do not become caricatures. You can sympathize with everyone if you put yourself in their shoes a little. It is nice to see in this coming of age story how a girl with a lack of self-confidence battles with herself, loses herself and (of course) finds herself again. Excellent acting. Nice music too. Some might find the ending a bit too sweet, but the first 85 minutes of the film are spared that. It may be a somewhat milked theme, but the film distinguishes itself by the excellent acting and the realistic emotions and characters. Do not expect spectacular dance scenes like in the Step Up series. Here too: what you see is realistic in how children at the end of primary school can learn to dance. Beautiful! 4 stars.
