Arcadian plot

In the near future, life on Earth has been decimated. Paul and his teenage sons, twins Thomas and Joseph, live half a life - tranquility by day and torment by night. When the sun goes down, fierce creatures of the night awaken and devour all living souls in their path. When Thomas doesn't make it home in time, Paul leaves the safety of their fortified farmhouse to find him before the creatures arrive. In the ensuing struggle to save Thomas, Paul is nearly killed. At dawn, Joseph finds his brother with their badly injured father. Now the twins must devise a desperate plan to survive the night ahead and use everything their father taught them to keep him alive.

In any case, I didn't think the movie was worth it.

No reason is given for the state of the world as it is.

Furthermore, there are far too many dark images and the camera work is as if a 3-year-old toddler with Parkinson's had shot the images.

If anything, it made me dizzy.

Weak.

Monster movie with Cage who doesn't quite play the leading role. We don't get a clear answer as to how the world got to this state, but you can make your own suggestions. The monsters are certainly the culprit, but we don't know how they got there. The film makes good use of not showing the monsters for a while. Something that we cannot see usually causes more fear. The brothers play reasonably well and have that typical bickering between brothers. You also notice how people are focused on their own family, they are not quick to share anything. Medicines are a precious commodity. The film has some action and for a low-budget film (or so I assume) it is certainly not bad. The film is certainly eye-catching and doesn't last long. So it is certainly good enough for monster movie fans to check it out.

In terms of plot, it is sparse and predictably developed, but not bad within the ever-expanding genre of the dystopian horror film. The film is very similar to the earlier It Comes At Night, with the difference that the threat becomes visible here. And in that respect, Arcadian certainly does not disappoint. The monsters are genuinely freaky and creepy and are convincingly depicted at crucial points. I also thought it was an advantage that you don't learn anything about the mysterious creatures, something that contributes to the alienating atmosphere. Cage has a smaller role, but both his sons (Jaeden Martell and Maxwell Jenkins) do a fine job.
