Blackout plot

The artist Charley Barrett suffers from blackouts. Where he mainly painted landscapes, his creations are now moving in a dark direction. When he just recovers from a blackout, he seems in a hurry and is on his way to his good friend Earl. In the end he doesn't get there. The next day he wants to make things right, but the reunion with Earl doesn't go well for everyone.

Director Larry Fessenden has served as a mentor to several other successful directors and has been in the business for some time, but this is rarely evident in Blackout. Only the urge to highlight a number of socially critical topics and reasonably experimental werewolf transformations betray the fact that a craftsman is behind the camera, but overall, this was quite a dull reunion. Clunky (albeit practical) effects and utterly uninteresting characters constantly talking to each other about American injustice and other nonsense, without this ever coming across as even remotely memorable. Furthermore, Fessenden opts for a reasonably old-fashioned approach to his werewolf sieges, but with only a claw appearing on screen and the low number of bodies falling to the ground, he certainly fails to impress. A disappointing film that might still appeal to a specific target audience of horror enthusiasts.
