Femme (2023)

A gay man allows himself to be rammed several times in the hole by his attacker in the hope of posting a revenge porn video as revenge for an earlier bashing when he was dressed as a drag queen. A completely nonsensical film without any feeling, subtlety or analysis. I think it mainly gets praise from the community. I've seen a lot of good gay films, but this one certainly isn't one of them.

Three months after Jules [Nathan Stewart-Jarrett] is beaten up shortly after a drag show, he runs into Preston [George MacKay], his attacker at the time, in a gay bar. Knowing that Preston has not yet come out of the closet, Jules tries to seduce his attacker and get revenge by making a sex tape and publishing it on the Internet. Intense psychological and atmospheric drama is well acted, but the story is a bit thin and the second half drags on towards the dramatic ending.

At its core I thought it was a pretty unbelievable story, but at some point I decided it was actually a kind of fairytale, and after that I really appreciated this film. I mean, no one believes that Little Red Riding Hood actually thought that wolf was her grandmother, but it's still a great story.

In Femme chance plays a very important role and the characters regularly make choices that they logically would not make, but which do put tension on the story. If you don't put salt on those snails, you will be left with a very entertaining, smooth and quite exciting film.

The character of Preston in particular is portrayed wonderfully, however grotesque at times. I now see that the same actor also plays in La Bête (Film, 2023) (I'm not very good with faces). He was already so strong there. George Mackay, remember that name. Or is he already world famous? Then I didn't say anything.
