Orphaned boy Peter goes in search of his missing sister. He asks a fortune teller if she is still alive. He will find the answer to this with the help of a special elephant and its magician. A journey starts for Peter to complete three difficult assignments.

Film adaptation of Kate DiCamillo's book of the same name about Peter [Noah Jupe], who lives in a village where all magic has (literally) disappeared after a war that killed his parents and sister. At least, that's what Peter's guardian and ex-soldier Vilna Lutz [Mandy Patinkin] has always told him. But Peter believes that his sister is still alive and receives confirmation from a fortune teller [Natasia Demetrious] who also proclaims that he will find his sister if he follows 'the elephant'. When a magician [Benedict Wong] mistakenly conjures up an elephant and the king [Aasif Mandvi] confiscates it, Peter wants to free it. But before that, the king demands that he complete three 'impossible tasks'. A far-fetched story with the standard messages about the importance of family and faith (in yourself, in each other and in miracles) wrapped in an unimaginatively designed animation film.
