Matties plot

Twelve-year-old Ilias is confronted with drug crime in his neighborhood at a young age. His best friend Younes is accidentally killed. In search of the perpetrators, Ilias gets deeper and deeper into the drug world and enjoys the quick money, new friendships and his first girlfriend. When one day Ilias sees the couriers driving that he saw carry out the murder of Younes, he manages to tip off the police through a ruse and to remain sidelined himself. But will he be able to leave the drug scene behind?

In a neighborhood where drug dealers can do their thing quite easily, 12-year-old Ilias [Shad Issa] has found a role model in youth worker Younes [Abdellah Admi]. When Younes dies in an attack on the community center, Ilias is not sure how to deal with this, also because he was an eyewitness. He finds a new mentor in Bruno [Yassine El Hamdani], a dealer who offers him small courier jobs for large sums and even persuades Ilias to recruit his best friends. An intelligent and believable portrait of a prepubescent boy who is initially still insufficiently able to oversee the consequences of his choices. Under the direction of Houtman, the youthful cast delivers excellent work and Ilias' choices and personal growth are played completely authentically by Issa.
