Twelve-year-old Amber, an animal lover, volunteers at an animal shelter. She notices that the little pit bull Shadow is not being adopted. Too many people fear that the dog will grow up to be a vicious killer. After much research for a paper, Amber discovers that pit bulls are not naturally aggressive, but that the attitudes of all dog breeds reflect the nature of their owners. After adopting Shadow herself, Amber is stunned when the local authorities show up at her door to announce that pit bulls are banned in her county. Amber decides to take the ordinance to court and hopes to restore the reputation of pit bulls.
