Deus Ex Machina plot

A desperate cartoonist in crisis goes to a publisher hoping to get work, but the drawings are not to the publisher's liking. The cartoonist is dragged into a dark world of murder and intrigue when the cynical publisher sees his beautiful but inappropriate sketches. It triggers a series of unfortunate events that they must now resolve.
