The Mistress plot

Newlywed couple Parker and Madeline settle into their new dream home in a Los Angeles neighborhood. Soon after, the lovers discover ancient letters hidden in the walls. The author of the letters was the lovelorn woman who was having an affair with the then-married homeowner. She was eventually disowned by him and died of suicide. While reading the letters, Madeline suspects that her husband is hiding a dark secret.

An uninteresting haunted house film where most of the danger comes from dreams or unintimidating apparitions. Director Greg Pritikin has the necessary experience to deliver an atmospheric horror film, but in The Mistress, he mainly focuses on the elements that hinder such a project. Endless chatter about stress and family problems, and while relevant to the content, it all drags on for a very long time. The acting is decent and some scenes look atmospheric, but it never truly builds tension. Additional negatives for the excessively long duration.
